This tutorial will show you how to create and use custom fields to quick search clients, with a real time example.
For this you need to follow below steps:
1) Create Custom Fields
2) Assign Custom Fields to your clients
3) Search / Query your client list for the custom field
From your dashboard:
1) Choose Options
2) Choose Clients -> Manage Custom Fields
To create a new custom field, click ADD (Detailed doc on creating custom fields is available here)
We already have a custom field 'Promo' created, so we can use it for our client list.
Ensure the check box 'Use for Searching' is selected to enable this field for searching.
But first, lets take a look at its contents.. Click 'Edit'
As you can see, the custom Field 'Promo' has promo codes with different $ value.
Your clients may be eligible for different promos from time to time, hence you can keep updating this field by adding new codes.
Now, lets take a look at how they appear on your dashboard and how convienient it gets to filter clients using custom fields.
From your dashboard, choose Clients
Here you can see your client list. Notice the "Promo' Field above the client list, with all its entries.
These can now be used to filter and quick search for a client.
For this example let us assign the '$ 100 New Year Promo' to a our client 'Anzac Overseas'
Click on the client name which brings up the client details page as below. Choose Custom Fields.
We have selected the '$ 100 New Year Promo' for our client. Click Save.
Back to Dashboard -> Clients
As you can see, the Promo has been applied to the client, however, you may have numerous clients with the same promo.. So let us now filter our client list using the same promo code.
Check the box for '$ 100 New Year Promo' and click Search
This filters your client list to show only those clients who have the promo code applied to them. See below:
As you can see, custom fields are a good option to filter your client list and easy categorization.
We used a frequent example of 'Promo Codes' But it is not just limited to that.
Other examples of custom fields could be categorizing your clients based on: Industry, Service Type, Hot Prospects, City etc.
